Week in Review

The Thompson High School and Thompson Middle School cheer programs hosted a Fall Fashion Show to showcase pieces from this fall's homecoming formal wear and fashion collections. Businesses in the Alabaster community set up in the THS lobby to sell merchandise. The THS cheerleaders plan to host another fashion show in the spring to showcase prom dresses, tuxes, and spring fashion.

This Week

The THS cheerleaders are hosting their annual Future Warrior Cheerleader Night on Friday, September 15. The material workshop will be held on Wednesday, September 13 in the THS lobby. The cost to participate is $30 and includes a t-shirt.

The Thompson Warriors Cross Country Team competed in the Chickasaw Trails Invitational this past weekend.

Individual Leaders and Key Stats

The Warriors competed in the Chickasaw Trails Invitational this past weekend. Our Lady Warriors placed 17th out of 35 teams. The Lady Warriors were led by McKenzie Hogue who finished with a time of 18:52, placing third overall out of 250 athletes. Big Mac is currently ranked second in the 7A classification. Our top 5 Lady Warriors were Hogue, Ryleigh Easterling, Emily Allen, Danielle Keene, and Abby Grace Walker, who contributed to a team average of 22:52. The Warriors placed 13th out of 46 teams.

On the boys’ side, the Warriors were led by Brandon DeMarcus Lee, who finished with a time of 16:05 placing seventh overall out 315 athletes. Brandon is currently ranked fourth in the 7A classification. Our top 5 Warriors were Brandon DeMarcus Lee, Jace Jones, Jacob Wyatt, Thomas Cousins, and Connor Gregory who contributed to a team average of 17:18.

This Week

We will be traveling to Scottsboro for the Scottsboro Invitational on Saturday. September 16. Our Girls will race at 9 a.m., while our boys will be racing at 9:35 a.m.

“I am very pleased with the performance from both our girls’ and boys’ Cross Country Team. This was a good way to start the season and we are looking forward to the upcoming meets.” – Head coach Chris Schmidt.

Week in Review

Varsity VB beats Homewood, Tuscaloosa County, Hartselle, Guntersville, Huntsville and Grissom. Varsity VB lost to Montgomery Academy, Blessed Trinity (twice), Hazel Green and Huntsville. The record from the past week was 7-5 and our overall season record is 11-5.

Week in Review

Three key wins for the Lady Warriors came by beating Tuscaloosa County on the road, beating Hartselle, who beat us soundly the last 2 seasons, and then beating Huntsville in three sets in their gym. The road to the State Tourney goes through many good teams in the North Region and earning a win over Huntsville gives the Lady Warriors confidence. Outstanding offensive performance for Thompson was outside hitter Mikayla Touhey, who led the way with 112 kills, which is an average of four kills per set. Jaila Williams had 39 aces and 79 digs and setter Kirsten Boyd handed out 278 assists.

This Week

Varsity and junior varsity plays host Huffman and Shelby County on Thursday in a tri-match. Junior varsity travels to Muscle Shoals for a tournament on Saturday and the freshman team plays at Huffman on Wednesday.

Coach Speak

“This past week was a grueling one for our team as we played 11 matches in four days, but we wanted to be tested both physically and mentally. And we responded well. I feel like we continue to grow. We are learning how to compete point for point with good teams and are learning to embrace that mentality. As long as we keep focused on our growth as a team I feel like we will continue to evolve. It's a fun group to coach that is for sure. It was also very positive to get our first Area 5 win on the road at Tuscaloosa County.” – Head coach Judy Green.

Varsity Football: Thompson 63, Tuscaloosa County 22 in a Class 7A Region 3 opener.

Key performers

Quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa was 19-of-25 for 329 yards with four touchdowns. Running back Jo-Jo Ford had three carries for 96 yards with a 64-yard touchdown. Wide receiver Ahmad Harris-Edwards had 10 catches for 165 yards with a touchdown. Wide receiver Mo Edwards had five catches for 93 yards with three touchdowns. Kicker Samuel Serrato made nine extra-point attempts.
